One more from the zoo

more pictures from the cell phone evacuation

Today Jack pointed up and said "sun!"
The top picture was taken with a regular digital camera at my friend Brendan's going away party last Sunday. That's Brendan's dad Jack is talking to.
As always, Jack is crazy for sprinklers.
The picture with the spider legs was taken at the zoo, Jack didn't want to stand up and make it look like the legs were actually on him.
I think I might have posted the one of him on his bike before, but that's okay.

Tycco is back!

So turns out Fiona is getting a little too wild for Room 2. I will try with all my might to find a picture of Fiona for you, and then you will laugh as hard as I am while I write that. She's been in Room 2 a long time and getting "a little too comfortable". So they moved her over to room 6 I think which left a slot open on M-W-F for Tycco to come back! The best part is that Jack still gets lots of hugs from Fiona when we see her at swimming on Tuesdays.
If you have never been fortunate enough to watch pure toddler friendship, I tell you it is a beautiful thing. And by the way, Tycco has a new little baby sister, name still undecided, although Tycco's older brother, Rocco, is voting for Lucca. We'll see...all are healthy and happy.

from Daily Record Sept. 25, 2009:
Jack was extremely excited when he saw Tycco after nap! :) They went outside and sat down for reading time :) Jack also did time drawing with crayons and chalk when he was playing outside.

from Daily Record Sept. 28, 2009:
Jack enjoyed jumping in the nap room this morning with his friends Tycco and Soloman. He clapped as I say "Go-Go Jack Go-Go!" :)

Late last summer at the park and daily intake

And also some recent daily records from daycare:

September 18, 2009
Went for a walk on campus :) Had a blast. (Jack loves riding in the Kinderwagon and holding hands with the kid sitting next to him)

September 21, 2009
Jack put on his back-pack this morning and asked for us to put toys and books in his back-pack. When the back-pack got too heavy, he sat down and listened to story with teacher Stephanie to take a rest.

September 22 (After swimming class in the morning, Jack got to spend a half day at daycare while mama helped daycare collect surveys for NAYEC certification. Bonus: Tycco was there! Jack's teacher Helen told me they "giggled all afternoon")
Jack was extremely excited to see Tycco this afternoon. They were both so silly, hiding under the blanket and playing peek-a-boo.

September 23, 2009
Jack really like the farm house donated by a friend to our classroom. The farm house makes animal noises and Jack like to put the farm animals in the house. He even added little people in the farm house.

Jack and Cameron last summer

Still pulling pictures from my cellphone. These from last summer daycare with Cameron, one of his two very best buddies.

more words, more cell phone pictures

I took this picture on my cell phone on Wednesday morning while we were waiting for the bus.
Wednesday when I picked up Jack from daycare he pointed to his friend next to him and yelled "ANNA!", which actually comes out like "NANA!" So now when he says "Nana" we have to figure out whether he's talking about Nana (Cath), nana (banana), Nnenna (teacher/friend), or Anna. It takes constant attention, let me tell you.
He also pointed to the button his sweater and said "button" which I had no idea he knew.
Tonight he was playing with some plastic hangers and he held up a pink one and said, "Pink!" and a blue one and said "blue!". He didn't know any of the other colors but he seemed very intrigued by the word "yellow" and tried to say it a couple of times.
Last week when I started taking him to swimming lessons again he didn't even have his clothes off (let alone his swimming suit on) when he went running toward the pool door saying "pool! pool!" Now he says "pool...?" every morning and I have to explain to him that we aren't going to the pool today, and try to make what we are doing sound really exciting.
Jack has this way of kind of mumbling "ohhhhh" when he's trying to say "I want a...". The other day he kept saying what sounded exactly like "ohhhhh f--k" but after asking him to repeat it and point with his finger, we were relieved to realize he was asking for a fork.
Jack continues to be preoccupied by the sound of trains, emergency vehicle sirens and trucks, ESPECIALLY the recycling/garbage truck. He says "train", "trash" and "truck" about 900 times per day. Yesterday we spent a long time watching the garbage truck hoist the cans up on a lift and dump the trash into the truck. Jack gave me a very animated, very thorough explanation of everything he saw with elaborate hand gestures and sound effects. This morning he heard the garbage truck outside at 6:30 am and was really frustrated that I wouldn't take him outside to see it.

hot day in the park

so we put on the cow onesie and left it at that

Mission

Jack and I went down to a Street Art Festival in the Mission last month, Jack investigated every nook and cranny on our walk back to the bus stop.

Jack and Sparrow

For a little while Sparrow was going to swimming with us, but then they moved out of the neighborhood and it would take hours for them to get to the pool. Jack always laughs and gets really goofy around Sparrow.

Miscellaneous

1. I took Jack to the doctor in a borrowed car. He hates sitting in his car seat now but enjoyed watching me squeegee the windows so I gave him the squeegee I found in the backseat. Dr. Garzona was utterly confused, "why does he have that?" But Jack was very happy to carry it around with him. He loves that ball on wire toy they have at the doctor's office too.

2. Have I mentioned that Jack loves stopping at all the sprinklers in the park and playing with how they work? Then he waves bye-bye to them.

3. I don't know why I took this picture of him on the playground, I think he was having more fun than he looks like in this picture, "what-evs"

4. when I put the pictures into iPhoto, this one of Jack and the street stencil of the fist came up right next to each other. Completely by accident but hey, "all power to the people"

Jack and Nnenna

Walked in to pick up Jack at daycare----

Speaking of which:

Daily Record September 14, 2009
Jack and his friends enjoyed playing with the musical instruments I brought out this morning. I was playing Happy Birthday on the piano as Jack shook the bells. :)

Daily Record September 16, 2009
Jack made dinner with his friends today! They were in the sandbox kitchen making pasta. His friends poured sand in front of Jack and he would stir it!

cleaning out the cellphone pics

I was talking to my boss at work today who has a nephew just about Jack's age. She was saying that her nephew walks around saying "what's that?" all the time and we laughed because Jack does too. Once again I am reminded that the growth in these first couple of years is astounding in all kids. As a parent you're shocked at the leaps they make each day. Honestly, I cannot keep up recording the new things Jack does each day. New words, new requests, new tricks.
Jack is very excited about people peeing in the potty. He is concerned when he hears babies crying. Emergency sirens make him stop what he's doing and say "What's THAT?!" He points to everyone around him on the bus and says "Who's that?" He knows that he's not supposed to go in the road because that's where the cars go "vroom!" and he needs to stay in his seat on the bus because the bus jerks back and forth and he could fall down (although he still wants to stand up anyway). He says "sing" and "train" and is fascinated by large moving vehicles. He likes to put my tea bag in my tea cup for me in the morning.
Anyway, I'm cleaning out my cellphone pics because our contract is up in November and the #1 key on my phone is starting to give out so there's a good chance I'll be getting a new phone. I don't want to wait to upload all the pictures then, so I'm doing it as I walk around during the day.
These first three are from waiting for the train. Jack carried his backpack with him the entire day except for a little while when we played on the playground.

words

Jack asks "what is that?" a lot now. Especially when he hears a siren or sees a big truck.
He also says "bus", "sing", "bike", "cheese", "tea", and "keys" (those last three sound pretty much the same, we really rely on context)
He crosses his arms (like Papa). The other night we got rained out of a friend's birthday bonfire so we all ended up back at our house. Jack really got into "hanging out". He liked sitting on a chair in the circle with the grown-ups and gave that little smile he gives when he's especially pleased.

A recent afternoon of fingerpainting

Jack is a very prolific artist, I could hardly keep the clean sheets of paper coming before he would have them filled. It was a blast.

Weekend at the Russian River

In an attempt to have a little family time away from the stresses of the city, we headed off to the Russian River a couple weekends ago. It wasn't very relaxing for a variety of reasons, but the change of scenery was good and Jack had a good time. It always melts my heart when I see how excited he gets by other kids. He watches them and then usually starts trailing after them, trying to get in on the action. He laughs and runs around with them, even though he's still not at the age where he engages in interactive play. The lodge we stayed at has a huge lawn that leads down to the river and the pier and Jack loved running around in the grass unencumbered.
He got a little too much sun on Sunday and ate to fast that night causing him to throw up a number of times, which was pretty upsetting, but by morning he was in good shape and back to his cheerful self, if a little tired from being up so much at night.

Daily Record
September 2, 2009
Jack got to go on a a stroller walk with Fiona and his room 3 friends. He was so happy and excited to get strapped in the stroller! :)
(the stroller they have at school is actually a Kinderwagon that sits four kids, it's really adorable and Jack looooves it. When we leave school each day he needs to climb up on it and sit in the seat to show it to me. He wants me to push, but I tell him that only the teacher is allowed)

September 4, 2009
Jack did a little painting in the yard this morning and then came back in the room to explore flubber. :) He also spent a good 5 minutes walking on the stacking blocks.

Incident Report
September 4, 2009
Jack was excited to come inside and as he ran to come in the door, he ran into the doorway and hit the side of his head. I gave him an icee and lots of hugs!! Small bump to right side of forehead.
