Pregnant Virgin Mary

You may recall from the first posting that it was my fabulous Virgin Mary costume that partially inspired Young Simon's blog. I just got a couple pictures back so I figured I'd share with y'all. Sorry the picture doesn't include the sandals I was wearing. (My dear friend Jen is the bat, and I thought the raven was pretty impressive too.) I wonder what my art history symbolism books would say about "The Virgin Mother with Bat and Raven".

When you really know you're pregnant

I could feel my belly resting on my legs while I was sitting at my desk studying tonight.

32 weeks

Sean took this picture of Young Simon's current digs on our roof. As of this past weekend my waist measures 42"-- kind of amazing that I still have over a month to go.
Last week we took Young Simon to Videos and Music From the Dump-a screening and concert from the artist in residency program at Sunset Scavenger. Young Simon definitely starting wriggling around, although not as much as to the mariachi band.
I started kick counts a couple weeks ago. I don't know if they just make people over 35 do it or if everybody is supposed to, but you keep your hand on your belly and time how long it takes for the baby to kick ten times. They say if it takes longer than 2 hours you're supposed to contact the hospital. Young Simon always comes in between 10 and 20 minutes, so I guess we're in good shape.
We started out Childbirth Preparation class where they teach you how to breathe and show you around the hospital. A lot of the breathing and relaxing stuff I've done in yoga, but it was great to get the layout for the big day.
Sean organized a prenatal massage for me last week that was utterly blissful. Can I get a round of applause for Sean?
We can see Young Simon moving around in there, sometimes you feel like a foot is going to come busting through my belly button.

Nancy and Young Simon on the Bajaj

(I had some difficulty downloading the picture before.)

Week 30

Halloween night I dressed up (for the first time since 1997) as the pregnant Virgin Mary. Between the costume and the gentle proddings of Angela (and technical assistance of Lisa) I decided to go ahead and start a blog about Sean and my band, La Familia's first release, Young Simon (working title). I'm hoping Sean will get on here too and share his thoughts and updates.
To bring everyone up to speed, I dig pregnancy.
So a couple months ago we sold off one of the Yamaha FZR600's and purchased a Bajaj scooter. The riding position on the cycle had become really uncomfortable, but the scooter feels like sitting on a pony. It's great for getting back and forth to school and to go swim laps at the YMCA.
I credit swimming laps and lots of sleep with the easiness of my pregnancy so far, but I haven't hit the ninth month yet, so who knows?
Young Simon has been to two concerts so far. We went to see Beat Cops at a house party and there was a mariachi band at the Sonoma Valley Museum for the Dia de los Muertos exhibit. If moving around is any indication, Young Simon seems to really enjoy live music.
We're outfitting the baby's room-painted it green and inherited a beautiful crib handmade by an old co-worker, Paul Troutman, painted by Chris Duncan.
This whole business is pretty exciting.
