6 weeks tomorrow

The last couple weeks we've started noticing Jack's changes.
He's able to track things with his eyes more (although sometimes he just doesn't bother). He's outgrown a couple things and grown into a couple others. His upper eyelashes keep getting longer and he's got thick peachfuzz where we hope he will eventually have eyebrows. He smiles more, especially on the changing table and he smiles when either dad or mom talks to him on the phone-(maybe it's lack of muscle control but we like to think otherwise).
When his rear end is free to enjoy the cool air on the changing table, Jack kicks his legs like crazy-he seems very pleased with himself when he does this (I just look at them and think about trying to keep up with him once he's mobile).

One Month Old Today

No matter what else has gone wrong during the day, Jack is very happy on the changing table with his diaper off. He's also smiling a lot more in general.

Jack's eyes

Jack has full-on eyelashes on his top lid, but still none on his lower lids. His irises are starting to get darker around the edges, and more gray in the middle, (echoing the hazel eyes of both his parents?). He also seems to be watching and following things with some rhyme and reason. I think he still mostly recognizes me by my hair because the other day I had a blue towel wrapped on my head and Jack seemed a little freaked out by it.

Who else could wake us up at 4 am and make us smile?

Jack is a pretty good sleeper as newborns go. He usually wakes up about 3 times at night, and he sleeps a good few hours in between. He's really happy to get his diaper changed and stretch his legs out a bit (usually spurring some projectile pooping-I asked him the other morning if he couldn't warn us with a hollar of "fire in the hole!") Then we wrap him back up and he's zonked out for another few hours.
Jack seems to have an affinity for the color orange, or at least he really likes it when there is light coming through the orange curtains in the kitchen or the bedroom. He's also just beginning to watch moving things like the cool mobile Sean made for him that hangs over the changing table and the elephant mobile that Aunt Karen sent him. But then he also seems enraptured just staring at the wall.
It makes me wonder if babies can see ghosts. I also wonder if babies know the difference between asleep and awake, or reality and their dreams? Reality must seem like a dream after being in utero, maybe there's no difference in Jack's mind between what he sees when he sleeps and when he's awake?
