Jack's First Tooth!

Yesterday I noticed a tiny white tooth poking through Jack's bottom gum-hopefully I can send a picture if I can get him to hold still with his mouth open...

the feet, the feet, it's all about the feet

Sean said that Jack actually got his feet in his mouth today all on his own. He sent me this picture while I was working at my internship.
Jack is completely bedazzled by his feet.

Jack's first meal

While we had some trouble getting Jack to recognize what he was supposed to be putting in his mouth, he seemed to enjoy sitting in his new highchair (in no small part due to the fact that he can see his feet). Eventually we remembered that he should have a bib on, and we were on our way! Percentage-wise, more of the food went down than ended up on Jack, so we're doing something right.

4 months, 15.4 pounds, 25 inches

Jack got his second round of shots yesterday at the doctor. He held up like a real champ. Dr. Garzona said it's okay to start him out on infant cereal, so Sean is picking up some at the store today-pretty exciting stuff. They say you're supposed to wait until the baby can sit up on their own before you give them food-it has something to do with the development of their ability to swallow-but I was starting to wonder because it seems like Jack wants to eat almost constantly once he gets started.
We also picked up a high chair off of craigslist yesterday-also very exciting. I tried Jack out in it this morning and he seemed very agreeable. He patted the tray the same way he patted the side of the pool. I think he's still a little small for it and I don't want to leave him unattended because he still doesn't sit up entirely on his own-I don't want him to bonk his head. Nonetheless, he looked pretty cute sitting up in it and it will be nice to have him eventually sitting at his own chair, rather than in his bouncy seat on the kitchen table while we eat.
It's been really hot (for San Francisco) the past couple days, so Jack has been kicking back in shorts or just a onesie, and one night he slept in nothing but a diaper after a nice, cool bath. You won't see many pictures of Jack's knees, so enjoy this one.
Hey, by the way, someone told me there's some way for you to print pictures off this website. I know if you click on the picture, it will pop up on your screen, but does anyone know about getting pictures printed? If you do, post to the website, so everyone can use the information.

A big day for Jack

Today I had Jack lying on his blanket while I cleaned up his room. I was busy talking to him, telling him what I was doing, and when I looked over, he was holding his pink spoon-waving it around, chewing on it and whatnot. This is the first time he has decided to pick something up on his own. Usually we hold something up for him and he grabs it. Needless to say, I was pretty excited.
I wonder if he was inspired by the older kids at his FIRST SWIMMING LESSON! Jack was a little unsure at first, keeping his hands closed in at his chin but eventually his arms relaxed and he seemed pretty entranced. Jack really enjoyed playing Humpty Dumpty (the kids sit on the edge of the pool, and then "fall" into the water and grab the side of the pool). Jack really liked patting the edge of the pool, (while the rest of the class was moving on to the next activity), so I try to let him follow through on what he's doing before I move him to the next thing. He also really enjoyed looking at his feet in the water while laying on his back and kicking. The pool is beautiful-it's for physical therapy and handicapped folks, and it's kept really warm besides having a very gradual descent of stairs into the water and the deepest it gets is four feet.
I had a very clear moment of realizing that I wouldn't want to be anywhere in the world except right there with Jack as he wondered what all those other people were doing in our bathtub.

Mother's Day

Sean watched Jack on Sunday while I'll slept in until a luxurious 10:30...ahhh. When I woke up the whole house smelled delicious and when I came out into the kitchen there was a delicious plate of eggs, toast, sweet potatoes and fresh fruit waiting for me. If that wasn't enough, random people wished me Happy Mother's Day while the family enjoyed a cup of coffee (small one) at our new favorite coffee shop, Trouble Coffee, and a beautiful walk in the park before an early dinner. It was a magnificent day.

hands, feet, and seeing in stereo

Jack is really into feet and hands-his and everybody else's. Anything that feels like skin goes right into his mouth. Feeding him is becoming a challenge because when he's in the sitting/feeding position he immediately starts searching for those feet, and if he spots them he starts bending over farther and farther trying to get them into his mouth. Yesterday he managed to pull it off with his socks still on so I gave in and took his socks off and let him examine his toes for a while.
According to the books he's also seeing in 3-D now, so he's constantly trying to pick up the cow off his boppy pillow, the strips off his pants, the picture off my T-shirt.
He has some problems with gas, we think because of the formula we supplement with, but he eats so much there's no way I can make enough milk for him! Other than that, he remains a very good-natured little guy, curious, a little shy, very attentive and watchful.
